Regular yoga practice can:

Reduce stress, depression and anxiety

Stress often plays a large factor in anxiety and depression. People with depression often tend to have elevated levels of cortisol which is a stress hormone. Practising yoga can help to lower your cortisol levels. It stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, releasing tension and helping our body and mind feel more relaxed.

Boost energy, focus and concentration

We often wake up feeling like we need more sleep before we’re ready to start our day! This is because our brain gets overstimulated and our bodies are full of cortisol so even though we’re tired it’s hard for our brains to switch off.  By practising yoga poses combined with breathing and yoga Nidra it has been shown in research that this can change the brain cells, increase the retention of information, and the ability to concentrate on tasks and learn new things as well as helping with insomnia

Improve body posture, strength and flexibility

Yoga poses (asana), engage and stretch all the muscles in your body.  This releases lactic acid, a fluid that builds up in the body from everyday living and bad posture which causes stiffness, tension, pain, and fatigue.   In yoga we connect the body movement to breathwork to stretch and promote oxygen to every muscle in the body. With regular practice, the muscles will become firmer and elongated, this will give you increased strength and better posture and flexibility

You will develop core strength that will enable you to stand tall and strong, resulting in increased confidence and self-esteem.

Relax muscles & ease joint pain

After working hard all day, many people (especially those who are on their feet all day) experience joint pain, muscle tension, and nighttime aches.  By practising yoga and stretching before you go to bed you will help release the muscle tension you have built up during the day. Helping you to relax your neck, shoulders legs, etc. It will also promote a good night’s sleep.

Boost your mood

Yoga focuses on relaxation and meditation. This calms the mind, helps relieve tension and stress letting the mind and body let go of negative thoughts and baggage which has a positive effect on our anxiety levels and mood. Chemicals of oxytocin and dopamine inside the brain get released which help induce relaxation, aid sleep and simply leave us with the feel-good chemicals of content and happiness.
